UNCBasketballRecruiting.com is written by Matt Morgan. No, not the same Matt Morgan who writes for IC. There are just a lot of us, kind of like the Wear Twins. Perhaps if our complimentary strengths could be welded together we could morph into some sort of Thad Williamson alpha-journalist. I always thought the Wears would be better off combining into some sort of 7′ 8″ havoc-wreaking combo-forward. If you’ve read this far, you can probably tell that my doppelganger would be rather embarrassed to have their name mistakenly attached to my blatherings. For now, I’m going to stick with the moniker MK Morgan for branding purposes and to avoid confusion/mistakenly destruct careers.
In a nutshell, this site is meant to be more prosaic, reflective, and eclectic than the other UNC sites. At the same time, many personality types might find it utterly useless. It won’t provide up to the minute recruiting news and information, so I would recommend visiting a few times per week. I’m not sure that it fits the mass sports demographic very well (25-55 year old male in rural North Carolina) I can be a little eccentric and dark-humored from time to time, and I certainly have a tendency to overlook obvious truths about the game that others can see so clearly. I don’t think most basketball fans like to analyze the sport in the same way that I do, but I do think that a small niche might love it here.
I don’t golf with Roy, and I don’t know any insiders. Well, I know one or two, but I don’t have a consistent information stream from them. Hell, I may not even be as qualified as you are to be writing about UNC basketball. I don’t travel to AAU events and sprint my way up to the front row with a handheld camera. Well, except for the Bob Gibbons. I never played college basketball beyond intramural glory and local pickup games. I do love playing basketball though.
Nonetheless, here we find ourselves. And besides, such things as “qualifications” and “expertise” are severely overrated, right? I own a domain, therefore I am. (I think that’s what Descartes meant?)
This site has had some false starts in the last few years. They could be summarized as:
- 2008 – tried blogging
- 2009 – tried writing articles
- 2010 – tried a Q & A format
- 2011 – back to articles
I don’t root for Duke, but I am a slave to logic more than a slave to the rivalry. It’s a constant battle to learn to respect them and see past the storylines and inculcated social hate. I don’t think it’s wrong to hate, per se. In fact, as a friend pointed out to me, it’s cathartic to have an outlet to release our irrationalities. I just think there’s already plenty of places to do that on the web, so I don’t see a need to say Dookie, rat, turd, etc. I would appreciate it if we can keep illogical, emotional comments off the posts.
If you enjoy writing and do it well, please contact me and let’s work on some interesting stuff together to post on here.
